Gretel Eisch is a German artist who specialized in printmaking using vitreographic techniques. Within this monochromatic print, an eerie forest can be seen over the main figure’s left shoulder; underneath her right arm, a distant grouping of houses can be made out. Although Eisch has arranged her subject slightly off-center, the young woman still dominates the picture plane in relation to the surrounding scene.
