Show moreThe Lee County Government is currently in a dispute over the total density of dwelling unites within the open and rural lands classification contained in the Lee Plan. For the purpose of settling the dispute, and to meet provisions of Chapter 163, F.S. with regard to protection of recharge areas, the Lee County planning staff has recommended that certain large areas of Lee County be reclassified as "Groundwater Resource Areas". The justification of designating these specific areas was based on the protection of "recharge areas" and the protection of existing and future public water supply wellfield sites. Among the designated reclassification areas is approximately 9000 acres of property owned by the Zemel family in northwest Lee County.
