Show moreEvery company at some point or another faces tough challenges that often stem from issues at the upper management level. The causes and reasons for these issues have been studied and analyzed immensely and now are summarized and known as the “Five Dysfunctions of a Team”, which are described in Patrick Lencioni’s book with the same title. Absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results make up the five dysfunctions presented by Lencioni. These dysfunctions are extremely common due to human nature and can be seen in many major organizations among management teams. To show how a huge company suffers from these flaws, I chose to analyze Uber and the many issues that stem from their dysfunctional leadership. Uber has a reputation of having issues with employee safety, sexual harassment, and an undesirable workspace. They have faced an immense amount of backlash, financial loss, and major public awareness of their issues, so I felt that this would be a great company to analyze for research and educational purposes. In this case study, I am using the PEAS framework for critical thinking to analyze how the various issues among Uber’s executive staff and managers relate to the five dysfunctions of a team. Through this research, I will show the importance of successful relationships within management and teams and how it directly affects the overall success of a company, which is extremely relevant for any organization. There is a good collection of related research to the five dysfunctions, and many sources to utilize regarding Uber’s past and current problems. Through hiring a new CEO and many higher-level managers stepping down, Uber has already attempted to make changes in a positive direction, but there are still many ways in which they can improve their management, reputation, and workplace safety.

Significance: Untreated pain is a problem currently being faced by many older adults residing in the skilled nursing facility. The presence of this pain can lead to decreased levels of independence, functional decline of activities of daily living, depression, and anxiety. With the utilization of a team approach, the issue of untreated pain has a larger chance of being addressed. Methods: A DNP project based on the approach of utilizing a team approach in the skilled nursing facility was developed. A series of education presentations was conducted, and data was compared pre- and post-intervention utilizing Centers for Medicare reported Minimum Data Set 3.0. Conclusion: The need to promote the team approach to pain assessment and management in the skilled nursing facility exists. This is done by creating a team and educating them on the methods of pain assessment. Unfortunately, the results of this DNP project were unable to show significant improvement in ability to assess or manage pain by utilizing a team approach due to the limitations in data collection.
