John Bailey regales an audience at the old Bailey's General Store at the Sanibel Historical Village and Museum in June 1993. John, Francis, and Sam Bailey were born to Frank P. Bailey, also one of three sons--Frank, Harry and Ernest Bailey. The Baileys farmed on Sanibel, coming to the island in 1894, and established a packing company and general store in 1899.

The daughter of a Sanibel farming family, Irene Riddle married a farmer, Jesse Adkins. The two of them in the cart pulled by the gray mule, are in front of Irene's home. George Riddle, her father, had built their six-room house a half mile south of the school and a half mile from the Gulf, near the cemetery, along Casa Ybel Road.
